In 2004, the Houston Rockets were seen as championship contenders, as Yao Ming had become a key part of their offense, and a trade for Tracy McGrady had just been made. That season, Yao Ming broke the record previously held by Michael Jordan for the most votes in the All-Star game. He averaged 18 points per game with a shooting percentage of 55%, and 8.4 rebounds per game throughout the year. The Rockets finished the season with 51 wins and qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive time. In the first round against the Dallas Mavericks, Yao delivered a historic performance with 13 successful shots out of 14 for the Rockets.
